Following the spontaneous idea of leaving Sydney over the long weekend – well, at least as spontaneous as one can be when frantically trying to find a place to stay a week before a long weekend – Barbara, Markus and I rented a cabin at the High Tweeters Farm 36 kms northeast of Rylstone at the borders of Wollemi Nationalpark.

Getting there was already an adventure since about 2/3rds of the way from Rylstone where dirt road. And it had been raining all week long. The “farm” was quite high up at around 1100m and it was foggy, cold and getting dark when we arrived there.

But after only two days up there – with a single trip to Mudgee (it’s a wine growing and tasting region after all) and to Dunn Swamp none of us wanted to leave.

So on the way back we started talking about buying a place like that somewhere in the middle of nowhere with only kangaroos and wombats around, with a dog, a cat and a greenhouse for growing Barbara’s flowers, a herb garden, apple and chestnut trees and our own vegetable pad. All it would need is a good internet connection to be able to work from home. Wouldn’t that be heaven? At least for a while.
